Best Luxury Rome Italy Hotels

Splendide Royal Rooftop

What could be better than staying in a room that overlooks the amazing ancient Roman Pantheon? In my opinion this is the most charming area of Rome.

Splendide Royal in Rome is a small, elegant luxury hotel located not far from the Spanish Steps and near Borghese gardens. It has a beautiful roof-top restaurant with fantastic views and a small fitness center.

The Albergo del Senato is not a 5 star hotel, but I had to put it in the best Rome luxury hotel category because of #1 it's perfect location next to the Pantheon and #2 the many reviews mentioning it's great staff and service. This luxury hotel in Rome has old world charm with modern conveniences.

Best Hotels in Rome Italy
Accommodations by Neighborhood

First decide what neighborhood or area in Rome you would like to stay.

Here are some things to consider:

  • Price - Central Rome will be more expensive. If you stay further out from the center or in the Termini Station area you will be more likely to find cheap Rome accommodations.
  • Convenience - Which sites most interest you? Would you like to stay near the Vatican and attend daily mass, near the Forum because you love Roman Ruins or near Termini Station with it's metro, bus and train options?
  • Noisy or quiet - Some areas, such as near the Termini tend to be noisy and busy. If you like quiet, there will be pockets throughout the city that are more quiet (the Rome hotel reviews will help with this) or consider Convent accommodations in Rome.

Best Hotels in Rome Historic Center

Best Hotels Central Rome

This is my all time favorite area to stay in Rome. You will probably pay more to stay in this area, although sometimes you will find discounts on hotels in Rome to bring the cost down. Most of the important sights to see and ancient Rome attractions are within walking distance and the old center of Rome is very charming. Explore a variety of central hotels in Rome on this separate page.

Best Hotels in Rome Trevi Fountain Neighborhood

Best Hotels Trevi Fountain

The Trevi Fountain neighborhood in central Rome is a lovely area and very convenient to base yourself. You will love exploring the narrow cobblestone streets of the old city with it's many beautiful piazzas and outdoor restaurants. You can walk from here to all of the major sights.

Two great hotels near Trevi Fountain are the popular Hotel Trevi Fountain and the excellent Albergo Cesari. Here are my other top picks for best Trevi Fountain Hotels.

Rome Hotel in Vatican City

Best Hotels Vatican City

If you are planning on spending a lot of time at the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basilica, you might want to consider staying in Vatican City.

Just steps to St. Peter's, the Palazzo Cardinal Cesi Hotel is an an "oasis of calm and peace" at the "gates of heaven". The rooms are small and clean in this peaceful hotel in Vatican City.

The 4 star Hotel Alimandi Vaticano is right across from the Vatican Museums and has good sized rooms, a great breakfast included, a pub and a rooftop terrace

Forum Hotel Rome Neighborhood

Best Hotels Ancient Rome

If you are very interested in the ancient Roman Ruins and ancient Roman history, consider staying in the area near the Forum.

My recommendation here is on a quiet, small side street in this busy area just a short walk from the Forum. The Hotel Artorius Rome has rooms that are good sized and the staff is helpful.

Hotels near Spanish Steps

Best Hotels Spanish Steps

For those who love to shop and be in the middle of all of the action, Spanish Steps hotels Rome are a good choice.

There are many designer shops, restaurants, cafes and bars in this area.

For a complete listing, check out this separate page on the best hotels in Rome Italy near the Spanish Steps.

Termini Hotel Rome Neighborhood

Best Hotels Termini Station

If you want to be near the the transportation hub for the train, bus and metro, the Termini Station area is a good choice. There are numerous hotel options and it is usually a little less expensive here.

Check out the Traveler's Choice 2010 winner at Trip Advisor. This is a big deal and the Welrome Hotel has earned that honor with a "home away from home" feel to it and it's very friendly owners Mary and Carlo.

Here are more "top picks" for a hotel in Italy Rome near Termini on this separate page.

Best Hotels near Villa Borghese

Best Hotels Villa Borghese

The River Palace Hotel Rome Italy is a great choice for a hotel near Villa Borghese. Piazza del Popolo and it's metro station are nearby. Clean, stylish, fairly small rooms include a nice breakfast buffet.

The Rome Hotel River Palace has a bar (free snacks for happy hour), Mediterranean restaurant, internet and cheap rates for a nice quality hotel.

Hotel Trastevere Neighborhood

Best Hotels Trastevere

The Trastevere Quarter is a charming old part of Rome, although it will be a longer walk to most of the major sights. There are lots of good small restaurants in this area and the night life is lively.

If this sounds appealing, then check out my pick for the one of the best hotels in Rome Trastevere....the Santa Maria Rome a unique, small hotel centered around a lovely, quiet courtyard.
