Weather Rome Italy Seasons

Spring in Rome

The end of March, April and May are a great time to travel to Italy. The temperatures are highs of 60F/16C to 73F/23C with lows of 40F/7C to 52F/11C. There is limited rainfall during these months. The rates at hotels reflect this usually high season rates apply.

We have traveled early in March and it really was quite lovely - a bit cool, but not many crowds anywhere.

Easter in Rome

Easter falls during this time and expect lots of pilgrims during and around Holy Week.

Summer in Rome

June is a good time to travel to Rome with an average high of 81F/27C and lows of 58F/14C. Again expect high hotel prices.

July and August can be hot and crowded. The weather Rome Italy will have an average high of 87F and low of 64F/18C. This is also the driest time of year.

Many people take Rome vacations and Rome city breaks during this time so it is full of tourists and you will find long lines at many Rome attractions and sights.

August is when Europeans are on vacation so many shops and restaurants close in August.

The heat can be quite uncomfortable and since many of Rome's sights are outside walking around can be exhausting. Also, do not expect Rome air-conditioning to be on par with American AC....it isn't. I have seen many complaints about poor air conditioning.

A positive is that dining el fresco in the evening is quite lovely on a summer night.

Hotel rates are not quite as high now.

Fall in Rome

September and October are also quite nice in Rome with average high temperatures of 71F/22C to 80F/27C.

It is a lot less crowded at this time of year with school back in session and the end of summer vacation.

Hotel prices are high season rates.

There can be more rain, especially October.

Winter in Rome

November through early March is the cool season and also has the most rain. It usually doesn't rain for days on end, but instead there might be periods of heavy rain followed by break.

We went in February to Rome and although we did have some rain, we were able to see all of the sights without trouble and there was no crowds which was great.

Another advantage is the rates for accommodation in Rome are low, except for Christmas and New Years.

If you do go during this time, the weather Rome Italy can get quite chilly. Make sure and bring proper clothing because you will be outside for much of the sightseeing in Rome.
